Our mission is to improve access to quality playgrounds and other outdoor recreational facilities in lower income and underserved communities.
We strive for a future where all children have access to safe and appropriate playgrounds and recreational facilities.
CAPEbuilds was formed in the Summer of 2023 as the first local organization in the Triangle focused on improving the access to quality playgrounds and other recreational facilities. CAPE is an acronym for Carolina Alliance for Playground Equity.
We look to grow our philanthropy from the small jobs and fixes of today to a full-scale non-profit in the future with the ultimate goal to be able to build playgrounds where needed to create a lasting impact.
Our initial project is providing outdoor benches to local schools.
The first dozen benches were delivered September 26th, 2023 to Neal Middle School and Glenn Elementary School in Durham.
Saatvik coordinated a X-Day event at his school . 18 benches were made by high school volunteers at this event. A great way to give back to the community. These benches were delivered to Lakewood Elementary and Eastway Elementary in Durham on Oct 30th.
Plans are underway for next bench event and a pre-k playground build activity.
Testimonials:
Like many schools, outside seating is a challenge and often not a priority. However, the need is great! Students and teachers take advantage of any opportunities available to utilize outside seating to enjoy outside instruction. In many cases, students not only enjoy and thrive academically while being outside, but student engagement also increases.
On behalf of Principal Covington, Neal Administration, staff and students, we are very grateful and appreciative to have been selected by CAPE Builds to construct benches for our campus. It hasn't even been a week since being delivered, and I already see staff and students utilizing them daily.

"We want to thank you for your bench donation. We have used the benches to create an outdoor learning environment right in the middle of the woods on our school grounds. This will give all teachers a place to teach lessons and plan activities outdoors. Your donation has helped make this happen! Thank you!"

Saatvik is the president and founder of CAPEbuilds. He is currently a senior at Cary Academy, aspiring to study engineering while in college. During his Junior year, Saatvik was tasked with finding organizations in the community development sector that his school could partner with. Naturally, due to his love for the outdoors, he chose to focus on playgrounds and other outdoor recreational facilities; however when he searched for a local philanthropy to partner with he was disappointed that such a non-profit did not exist yet. Rather than looking elsewhere, Saatvik took the initiative to start an organization to help improve access to quality playgrounds and other outdoor recreational facilities in underserved communities, founding CAPE builds in the Summer of 2023.
